Past Activities
Paperworks was developed as the brain child of visionary, Richard Pedvin. Richard's sensitivity to the social exclusiveness and perceived pressure to be achieving, often at the cost of increased marginalisation of people with different needs, led to the creation of this organisation aimed at breaking down social barriers.
Paperworks are progressing through staged developments. Stage One, Pilot Programs, were aimed at developing awareness of the project, and fostering commitment and empowerment of participants, support from community groups and demonstrating the potential of breaking down barriers to social inclusion.
2007-2008
HACC - LEAD funding. Papermaking workshops involved 7 participants with disabilities and were held for 4 hours, three times a week for a 9-month period.
2009
Disability ACT -Quality of Life funding for Anna Rouse. Paperworks conducted 4 workshops for community members at the Woden Valley Youth Centre in June and July.
2010
Stage Two - From February until the end of June 2010, Paperworks, under the provisions of funding from Arts ACT, ran 3 workshops sessions a week at the Belconnen Arts Centre. Each session accommodated up to ten participants. This was an execution of Paperworks' vision to have integrated studio sessions for people from all backgrounds, including people with disability and participants from other marginalised groups.
Studio sessions were conducted by two artists, Richard Pedvin and Susanna Pieterse.
2011 and Future Plans
Stage Three - development and implementation of a Long Term Vision. In 2011 Paperworks aims to become a business operating as a social enterprise and to be semi sustainable. We have just set up a manufacturing studio and have started supplying products to interested retailers.
Paperworks will seek mentoring relationships with similar arts organisations; maintain our alliance with Social Ventures Australia and other supporting businesses. Funding from Disability ACT with rent support from the Belconnen Arts Centre, has been instrumental in helping us implement the next exciting phase.
